I was twenty-one that fateful day.
I had left early for choral rehearsal around 4.30 that morning. Like every other Thursday, the old man was beneath his tree. I waved, and he, breaking with tradition called to me to approach.
"Good morning, sir," I said in my politest tone.
"Oh, it`s not morning yet," he snarled and lunged towards me. He was impossibly fast and there was nothing i could do as he pulled me towawrds him and bit deep into my neck.
A flash of deep darkness appeared behind the old man`s shoulder.
"Bloody uncontrolled vamps."
The newcomer sweeped a stake into the back of my attacker, who turned into dust.
"A pity." A younger man stood before me now, a mock look of regret on his face. "We can`t have you running around now can we?"
He raises his stake, and I see, in slow motion, the trajectory of my death, from over his shoulder curving down towards my heart.
"No." I whisper. "No."
As if in reply, the motion of the stake slows further. A hand, my hand moves forward, palm facing the man. A strong black glow emits from it and in an instant, my attacker turns to dust.
I collapse onto my knees, shocked by what had happened.
Then, that black force, residing within, protecting, killing, stirred within. I could not stay here - not when so many waited to die.
Getting up, I brushed myself off. I was a new person, with no history before this morning, unlimited and unknown to all but myself - EKELARWENIA.
