My dearest James,
Even though it’s been less than three months since we met, I honestly don’t remember what life was like before waking up to Brief Missives in the morning, and wishing each other sweet dreams at night. There are some people whom, the more you get to know them, the more you feel as if you’ve always known them. I didn’t join this game expecting to meet the sort of person with whom I’d feel an instant connection, much less share the entire story of my life, but as soon as we began exchanging letters, I knew I’d met that sort of person. As letters turned into actual conversations, and daily discussions about the game turned into discussions about our lives, I realised I’d met someone genuine, someone caring, and someone I hope to have in my life long after we lose interest in killing vampires from our coffins (should such a thing ever happen.)
Although I wasn’t the 67-year-old nun you imagined me to be, I’m glad you took a chance and decided you needed a Black Widow in your life.
We may have established the record for the most times a couple attempted to have an internet vampire wedding, and while it never happened in exactly the way we planned, it somehow suits us, two people who never quite do things the way everyone else does. I’m very happy to know for sure that our connection is not based on needing someone to complete the “marriage” achievement, but out of a genuine fondness for one another, and hatred of the Metal Man.
Thank you for being the kind of guy who sees murder attempts as expressions of affection, builds summoning circles when you miss me, writes messages from the front lines of the 1800s, and sends little gifts to remind me you still like me. Whether in the game, or going through my morning, I find myself thinking that life isn’t the same when you’re not around. When all is said and done, you’re the person I’ll always choose to send my last red balloon to, in coffins and sunlight, in War and in Brawl, in AP and in QP, and I’ll always remember to try to murder you—especially when you’re being a scoundrel. I promise to never forget to say good morning, to accept all chocolate bars, to break you out of study jail, and to never give my Verve to anyone else, for as long as we both shall dwell in immortality.
More importantly, I promise to be someone who is there for you, all versions of you, in blue skies and in grey. You’re an extraordinarily special person who brings out the best in everyone around you, and my relationship with you will always be one of my favourite things. I absolutely adore you, I cherish everything you’ve brought into my life, and can’t wait to see what the future holds for us, together.
