New Server Coming Soon

I announced back in March that I have ordered a new server for Reign Of Blood. There were a couple of delays (although these sorts of custom server orders can take months, it's not like ordering something on Amazon) but the new server has been shipped and has arrived at the data centre!

For you spec nerds this is what has been ordered:
- 16 cores at 4.10GHz (boost to 4.4GHz)
- 192GB RAM (DDR5 4800MHz 12x16GB)
- 2x 3.2TB NVMe SSDs (needed for performance rather than capacity)
- 10Gbps NIC

As I previously said, some of the current server software is hitting end-of-life, so I took this opportunity to invest in new hardware to go with the new software. Furthermore, we'll have the new server running on the latest version PHP 8.3. The bad news is that there are a lot of syntax changes and tweaks in the newer PHP versions which would break RoB's codebase. So what will have to happen over the next week or so is I will have to go through all of RoB's code (which you can imagine will take a while) and tweak parts it works on the newest version. The result will be a more secure and stable game coupled with new base software and hardware resulting in an improved Reign Of Blood experience for everyone. My focus on this will begin this weekend so I appreciate your patience as I work on the backend of the game which from your end might look like I'm just sitting and eating crumpets and doing nothing all week. I'll keep you all updated with the progress!
