Week-Long Blood Thirst Results

Posted on 27-Jul-2020

The first - and likely last - week-long Blood Thirst has come to an end.

I want to take a moment and talk about it, and what my plans are going forward. The concept of a week-long Blood Thirst was interesting to me, and I wanted to give it a shot. Overall, I don't think it works. One mistake was having the team scores fully open up on day 2. I think by day 3 or 4 the outcome was more or less determined and it dragged on a little longer than it needed to. That was an oversight, which dented the enthusiasm quite early on for some people.

I had a few messages about how the teams weren't fairly distributed, and how the way I sort the teams is broken and/or unfair, and even though this complaint comes up every time, there is never going to be a 100% fair way to split the teams. Over the last year or so, things have got much better ever since the teams were sorted by Turns held going into Blood Thirst. With this being a different week-long event, there was a point where some people didn't push as hard seeing they were quite far behind quite early on. I stand by that sorting by Turns is the best way to sort the teams, and I hope you understand it is the best way (we've had plenty trial and error other ways in the past), even if you weren't on the winning team.

For those reasons, I won't be running another week-long Blood Thirst in this form. However, I will do something a little different for the next one, which I think will help tremendously with the longevity of the thing. More on that in the coming months.

Congratulations to Purple team for the win.

The July calendar will soon end, but there will be something coming for August, which will be announced very soon.

On a more positive note, the months April, May & June where the most active in Reign Of Blood's history. With no thanks to pandemic of course, but we're moving in the right direction.
