Games Where You Play As A Vampire
Not every vampire game actually lets you be the vampire. Plenty cast you as a hunter, a rival, or an outsider looking in. This page covers the games - console, PC, tabletop, and browser-based - where you play as a vampire yourself, and where Reign Of Blood fits among them.
Vampire, Or Vampire Hunter?
A lot of well-known vampire media puts you on the hunting side of the equation - stalking, fighting, or destroying vampires rather than being one. That can still be a great game, but it's a different fantasy entirely from playing as the vampire that includes building power, making the choices a vampire would make, and being the thing other characters fear. The games below are ones where you are the vampire.
Console And PC Games Where You Play As A Vampire
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines puts you in the role of a newly-turned vampire navigating clan politics in Los Angeles, and remains one of the most respected examples of the format. V Rising takes a different approach, dropping you into an open survival world as a weakened vampire rebuilding a castle and your strength from nothing. Vampyr casts you as a doctor turned vampire, forced to balance your medical oath against your new hunger. Code Vein and the Legacy Of Kain series are also worth knowing if you want more options in this space - both put a vampire, or something close to one, directly under your control.
Tabletop Vampire Roleplaying
If you'd rather play as a vampire around a table than on a screen, the original Vampire: The Masquerade tabletop system, first published in 1991, is the genre's defining example. It puts you fully in control of a vampire character within a structured world of clans and politics, with a game master guiding the story rather than a script.
Browser And Text-Based Games Where You Play As A Vampire
This is a much smaller field than console or PC gaming, and most attempts at it over the years have not lasted. Reign Of Blood is one of the few still running - a free, persistent vampire game or Vampire RPGs where you create and grow a vampire character entirely in your browser, with no downloads and no resets - it's been running since 2006. Unlike the games above, there is no script and no fixed ending - your vampire's story is shaped by your own decisions and the other real players around you.
Reign Of Blood - Play As A Vampire Since 2006
In Reign Of Blood, you are the vampire from the moment you create your character. Hunt, fight other vampires, join a coven, and build a reputation that carries real weight because it's built against other people, not scripted rivals. There's no ending to reach and no story that plays out the same way twice - your choices are the story.
